Jalan Perkasa

Background

Jalan Perkasa is the main route connects two (2) major expressways which are SMART Highway on the west via Jalan Kampung Pandan and MRR2 on the east direction. Major landuse surrounds this road is housing area such as Taman Maluri, Taman Pandan Jaya and Desa Pandan. The residential areas are supported by the community facilities such as schools and mosque which is frontage to the Jalan Perkasa. There are four (4) schools located nearby which are SK St Gabriel, SK Puteri Pandan 1, SK Puteri Pandan 2 and SJKC Tsun Jin. Besides, the institutions such as Institut Professional Baitulmal and Institut Kemahiran Baitulmal MAIWP are located front to Jalan Perkasa. The mix of landuse in Jalan Perkasa area contributed a vigorous traffic bypass Jalan Perkasa.

Trafficsens System (M) Sdn Bhd was commissioned to install an intelligent dynamic engine at four (4) junctions at Jalan Perkasa. Using artificial intelligence, TrafficSens will manage the traffic signals based on traffic demand from nearest junctions. This will eliminate the need for traffic light timers that have been one of the reasons leading to traffic woes at busy roads. Furthermore, the traffic management centre will be able to detect a faulty TrafficSens traffic light through 3G connection.

Objective

The objective of the study is to introduce a TrafficSens Dynamic Engine at four (4) signalised junctions at Jalan Perkasa. This study will examine and analyse the junction performance with and without the application of the dynamic engine.

There are four (4) junctions involved namely:

  1. Station 701: Jalan Perwira / Jalan Perkasa
  2. Station 725: Jalan Pria / Jalan Perkasa
  3. Station 721: Jalan Pria 8 / Jalan Perkasa
  4. Station 710: Jalan Jejaka /Jalan Perkasa


Network Performance Result

The network performance of the improvement plan (TrafficSens Dynamic Engine) was assessed by traffic simulators software namely PTV Vissim. PTV Vissim is a microscopic simulation tool for modelling multimodal traffic flows and it provides an ideal condition for testing different traffic scenarios in a realistic and highly detailed manner before final implementation.

Jalan Klang Lama

Background

Jalan Klang Lama is well-known as one of the most congested road in Malaysia. This major arterial road connects the Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya and Puchong area via Federal Highway, New Pantai Highway (NPE) and Shah Alam Highway (KESAS). The signalised junction play a crucial role in the performance of major road particularly in urban areas where traffic congestion has always been a major problem due to the annual increase of the number of vehicles in Malaysia.

In association with the Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur initiative to mitigate the traffic congestion situation in Kuala Lumpur, TrafficSens System (M) Sdn Bhd was commissioned to propose a new traffic light system scheme at five (5) signalised junctions along Jalan Klang Lama. The improvement suggested by TrafficSens System (M) Sdn Bhd is to maximize the signal light operational efficiency in order to reduce the queue and delay at the junctions.

Objective

The objective of this study is to introduce a new traffic light system scheme at five (5) signalised junctions along Jalan Klang Lama. This study will examine and analyse the junction performance with and without the proposed improvement scheme.

There are five (5) junctions involved namely:

  1. Station 938: Jalan Desa Utama/Jalan Desa
  2. Station 903: Jalan Desa/Jalan Klang Lama
  3. Station 904: Jalan Kuchai Lama/Jalan Klang Lama
  4. Station 905: Jalan Sepadu/Jalan Klang Lama
  5. Station 906: Jalan Gembira/Jalan Klang Lama


Network Performance Result

The network performance of the improvement plan (TrafficSens Dynamic Engine) was assessed by SIDRA Network which provides a model building of network up to 20 intersections.
